Our History
Koch-Armstrong General Engineering, Inc. was incorporated on January 12, 1998, by Monty Koch and Christopher Armstrong. Both Monty and Chris were born and raised in San Diego, and are dedicated to making San Diego “America’s Finest City”.
Monty Koch is a third generation contractor. His grandfather batched concrete for State Route 163 and helped install the pipeline under the Pacific Coast Highway, while his father pioneered for the State of California surveying crews working on the Cuyamaca Dam and Highway 8 among other projects. Monty started working for his father’s company washing dump trucks in the yard, working his way through the ranks as a laborer, becoming a bridge carpenter, operating engineer and later a plant mechanic, asphalt foreman and general superintendent for several of the prominent San Diego construction companies.
Christopher Armstrong has been involved with construction since the beginning of his career. He worked in the field to put himself through college, before moving into the office. He incorporates his knowledge of the field into his familiarity with field operations helps him produce bids that are accurate, comprehensive and fair.
Combining Monty’s vast knowledge of field operations with Chris’ estimating expertise and project management knowledge. Koch-Armstrong is able to access a wide range of resources and contacts in order to complete all facets of projects required by our customers.
Chris Armstrong served on the Engineering & General Contractors Association board for many years before being elected to Secretary. Monty Koch is a current member on the board of Engineering and General Contractors Council with the Associated General Contractor (AGC) of America, San Diego Chapter.
